White Swan counts coup on Sioux warrior, as the Sioux shoots at him with the bullet flying past.
Ledger drawing by White Swan, Crow Indian Scout for Custer at the Battle of Little Bighorn June, 1876. Outnumbered Crows allied with the U.S. Army in protection of their homeland from the Sioux and Cheyenne, who in turn were dispossessed of the Black Hills by Congress, gold-seeking westward expansionists, and diminishing resources. White Swan gave his art to the Congressional minister at Crow Agency, James Burgess, in the late 1800's.
