Self-Published in May, 1992: Memoirs of Claude R. Hookham. A collection of life experiences that date back to what are sometimes characterized as the "Good Old Days."
Many Changes have taken place in the last 87 years - some of them better and some worse. It is the author's hope that the deterioration of the environment can be checked in the near future.
Excerpt from book, page 83:
I received a letter from a real estate broker in Helena about a ranch at Canyon Ferry. I got on the train an went to Helena. The ranch he showed me was later covered with water when they raised the dam a few years later. I didn't much care for it. The broker said, "I know a doctor in Livingston by the name of Windsor who wants to sell a ranch." We came to Livingston and Dr. Windsor had Jim Murphy, his foreman, take me to Springdale to look at the ranch. There were about 6,000 acres in it, and he wanted $40,000 for it. I only had about half that much and didn't have nerve enough to buy it, so made a deal to go into partnership and operate it for a year or so to get acclimated. I made a trip on the train before Christmas to make the final arrangements.
